Dieffenbachia 'Green Magic'
As the name indicates Dieffenbachia 'Green Magic' - is the greenest Dieffenbachia in Dieffenbachia family. The white prominent mid-rib adds character to it. It is mostly used as an office plant. It is an evergreen tropical foliage plant.
Soil: Dieffenbachia loves firm, bread crumb textured soil. It grows well in soilless growing media like cocopeat. The ideal media should be having good water holding capacity. The pH of the soil should be 6.5 to 7.5 General pot mix can be used.
Water: It is a water-loving plant. It grows well under moist conditions, don't over-water till soil become soggy. The growing media should be kept dry in between two watering.
Climate: Dieffenbachia requires humid, warm climatic conditions with semi-shade or filtered light conditions. It grows well under full shade but plants grow pale and lanky. Low sunlight and dry air may cause the burning of the leaf margins.
Garden Use: Dieffenbachia is mostly used as a pot plant. It adds essence to corners and seating areas. These are also one of the best plants for offices. Keep it away from small children and pets, as chewing of leaves can be poisonous.
Care and Maintenance:
Nutrition: Dieffenbachia is a heavy feeder. It can be fertilized with well-decomposed farmyard manure or vermicompost twice a year.
Protection: Having lush green and juicy leaves comes with disadvantages for dieffenbachia, if plants are not healthy, it is heavily susceptible to sucking pests like aphids, thrips, and jassids. White woolly aphids and mites can be seen feeding underneath of the leaves. Cleaning of the leaves with water and cotton cloth or swab is advised. Keep pot and plant dry.
Horticulture Operations: Dieffenbachia is a fast-growing tropical foliage plant, it can be repotted once in a year with fresh pot-mix. Remove old or dried leaves with sharp secateurs to avoid physical injury to the plant.
