Vriesea 'El Dorado'
Vriesea belongs to the Bromelia family. Bromeliads are ancient, easy to grow, diverse group of plants which are drought hardy, easy to grow, and easy to maintain. They are available in many varieties and many flower colors. They bring surprises to cherish every after 4 to 6 months interval.
Soil: Bromeliads love light, porous, bread crumb textures soils, or growing media. They grow well in pH range from 6.5 to 7. Soil should be well-drained, rich in organic matter, and good water holding capacity.
Water: Bromeliads loves water, water them in the center into the calyx of the leaves. In dry days put the pot in a bowl containing water and let it evaporate.
Climate: It doesn't grow well in direct sunlight, put it under indirect to semi-shade condition. It grows well under temperature from 18 degrees Celcius to 32 degrees Celcius. It is a humidity loving plant - spray it with water in the hotter or dry season.
Garden Use: Bromeliads flowers only once. So once flowering is over, wait for its babies. Its mostly used as a seasonal pot arrangement.
Care and Maintenance:
Nutrition: It doesn't require any chemical fertilizer or heavy manuring.
Protection: Bromeliads are hardy plants, occasional cleaning of the leaves and spraying it with water will help the plant retain good health.
Horticulture Operations: After flowering is over, wait for babies to grow from the base of the mother plant. Once babies reach half of the size of the mother plant, separate it and plant in a new pot.
